Double distinction for Oros Machaira at the Cyprus Tourism Awards 2024!
Oros Machaira was honoured with two important awards at the Cyprus Tourism Awards 2024, confirming its commitment to sustainable tourism and environmental awareness.
Specifically, the “Adopt a Hive” programme won the Gold Award in the category “Initiatives for the protection of the environment / Awareness”, while the “Adventures at the Hives” activity was distinguished with the Silver Award in the “Agrotourism, Ecotourism & Mountain Tourism” pillar.
🥇 GOLD – “Adopt a Hive”
Through the “Adopt a Hive” programme, companies and groups have the opportunity to actively contribute to the protection of bees and biodiversity. It is an initiative of environmental responsibility, which combines a love of nature with the ongoing goal of sustainability.
To date, 32 hives have been adopted, which means approximately 960,000 bees, which over the course of their lives have pollinated a total of more than 72 billion flowers. This enormous contribution to the environment has a substantial footprint, both in the preservation of biodiversity and in the sustainable development of the Cypriot countryside.
🥈 SILVER – “Adventures at the Hives”
A unique experiential experience, suitable for all ages, the “Adventures at the Hives” activity offers educational tours into the world of bees.
Participants have the opportunity to dress in the beekeeper’s suit and visit our hives. There, with the help of our experienced staff, they open the hive to observe the bee society up close and get answers to various questions such as: how do we tell the bees apart, in which seasons do bees work, what do they feed on, and much more!
Visitors are thrilled by the unknown aspects of the bees’ lives, while the contact with nature, the aroma of honey and the living presence among the hives create an unforgettable experience.

With a history that begins in 1983, Oros Machaira is a family beekeeping business that has developed into one of the largest of its kind in Cyprus. The company’s modern apiary, near the village of Melini in the Larnaca district, is open to visitors and is a point of attraction for ecotourists, families and schools.
The company produces the well-known Cypriot honey ‘Oros Machaira’, which has won quality awards in international competitions. A range of bee products is also produced, such as propolis, royal jelly, cosmetics made from honey and beeswax, with complete respect for nature and for the bees.
